I just downloaded the VI Package manager.
I have a network connection, everything seems fine but its not wanting to connect.
Did anyone else get this problem?

The most likely problem is that your network settings are configured to use a proxy server. If so, this FAQ might help:Also, please post a copy of your latest error log file located at:

Its telling me I need to enter in my companys proxy server, username and password? Shouldn't this information be provided by JKI? Since thats where the VIs are coming from.

You're going out to the internet through your company's proxy server - that's why you need to provide VIPM it's details.

By default, you don't need to configure your connection to use a proxy server. have you tried with a direct connection?

I have tried both ways
I have the same problem.
SAme problem on different PCs. One has WinXP with Norton Internet security on it and the other is a Mac (with OS X).
Both fail to update the package list even though all other programs have no problem. I have already manually added VIPM to the exceptions list of the Norton firewall, but it still doesn't work.
Not much use to me at the moment.

Shane,
The error [Error 42 occurred at (http response "") ] would seem indicative of a firewall or proxy. You might try taking a look at this article (if you haven't already): How do I configure VIPM to use a proxy server?
Also, it is expected that your mirrors file would be blank, if you can't connect to the JKI Server.
Thanks,
-Jim

I connect over a Router but I don't have a proxy. All programs I use are set to connect directly to the Internet and they all work fine (Firefox, Thunderbird, Safari and so on).
So I don't think telling the software to use a non-existant proxy will solve the problem.
What ports does VIPM use to connect to the outside world? Maybe I can just unblock those ports explicitly on my Firewall.....
Shane.

Hi Shane,
VIPM connects over port 80 -- nothing special. I'm at a loss for reasons why this isn't working for you.

Just thinking aloud; could this be a localization issue (probably not since mac has a pb too, but just wondering)? Are you using a US version of windows?
Another idea: does it still fail if you disable your firewall completely?

Hi Richard,
This error (HTTP/1.0 403 Forbidden) seems to indicate that you are communicating with an HTTP server (other than JKI's) and it is refusing you access. This is probably a result of your computer's network configuration, or the configuration of your corporate network. Are you still having the issue? Do you have any Internet Firewall software installed on your computer?
Thanks,
-Jim
