I see that there is a Password parameter (string array?).
What is it? And what can it be used for?

I am assuming that you are talking about the Password parameter under "Source File Settings" of the VI Package Builder (http://screencast.com/t/r7iyxorPPF).

This parameter is to password protect the VIs in the package.

I am not sure what do you mean by the "string array".

Can you provide more information/screenshot to explain?

No, as per the title of the thread, I am talking about the Password parameter passed in, in the pre or post build hook.
I am guessing it is an array of passwords generated/used in the VIPB settings?
