Whoah looks great!

Now as a beta tester, this is about the installer!

The installer presents the option to optionally add two shortcuts (Start Menu and Desktop). After installation these aren't added.

Expected result:

Shortcuts

Actual result:

No shortcuts

System Info:

Tested on three different systems, all Windows XP, Dutch, Service Pack two. One XP Home, two XP Pro, all with administrator rights

Ton,

Again, thank you for the feedback.

I have a few follow up questions for you that might help us pin point the issue and resolve this Case # 1949.

  • Were all the WinXP you test VIPM installation installed on the C: Drive?

  • Is there anything non standard about these WinXP installations (User folder, Desktop folder not at the expected location for example)?

  • Did you install VIPM in the default directory?

  • You said there was no shortcut created, but did you saw under the start folder and directory structure created (such as "Start>>Programs>>JKI>>VI Package Manager")?

Regards,

PJM

Yes they were

The documents folder in all 3 cases were located on the D drive. Program files, LabVIEW, in the 'normal' location

No such thing was created, but I love to have an option to set a location for these items (eg. Start\Programs\National Instrument\Tools\VIPM)

I'll try to run the installer on an english system in the morning! but there the My Documents folder is created on the C-Drive

I've run the same installer on a 'english' laptop, and the shortcuts were installed in the right direction.

Thanks for the suggestion. One quick solution would be for you to create these Start menu folders/shortcuts yourself.

Is it possible for you to test on a Dutch installation with the documents folder located in the standard (C drive) location? This might hint as to whether the problem is related to the non-English version of Windows or, rather, the location of the documents folder. My instinct makes me think that it is probably an issue with the non-English version of Windows.

Thank you,

Hi Jim,

that might take a while, but can I run some other tests on your installer (or a subsection)?

You can contact me via Lava

Ton

Edit:

I've run the program on a Win2K dutch system (standard). No shortcuts as well...

It is excellent that the program doesn't need administrator rights to install
