What's New in VIPM 2.0.3

VIPM 2.0.3 is bugfix release that builds upon VIPM 2.0.2 and adds support for Mac OS X and Linux. All VIPM 2.x users should upgrade.

New and Changed Features
  • Mac OS X and Linux Support (VIPM Community Edition) - VIPM Community Edition now supports Mac OS X and Linux, allowing installing VI Packages and applying VI Package Configurations created with VIPM Professional Edition, as well as allowing access to the OpenG Packages available for download.
  • Better support for VI Templates - VI Template (*.vit) files can now be added to VI Package palettes and are supported when scanning projects for VI Package dependencies.
  • Refresh LabVIEW Palettes After Package Installation is now a Community Edition feature - previously, this was only available in Professional Edition.
  • "Packager" now defaults to Registered User's name - The default value of "Packager" (in the Advanced Build Parameters dialog) is now the registered user's name. You must delete the current value to reset to the default value. This default value will change when you build on a different user's machine with the same build settings, which allows you to easily track the person who built a package.
  • Icons available in VIPM installed folder - Icons and icon images are provided for all platforms (Mac, Linux, and Windows). See the "icons" folder beneath the VIPM installation location.
Resolved Issues
  • 5074: VIPC windows explorer default option for Community Edition should be Apply, not Open
The default (double-click) Windows File Explorer action for Community Edition users is now "Apply". It is still "Open" for Professional Edition users.
  • 5704: Installation (is VIPM running dialog): "Cancel" should not exit installer completely
Pressing "Cancel" button in the "VIPM already running" dialog no longer exits the installer.
  • 5705: Installer "Next" button should grey while checking if VIPM is running
Installer "Next" button is now disabled and grayed out while checking if VIPM is running.
  • 5718: Need input validation on Installation Locations
Installation Location paths (in Advanced Build Parameters dialog) are now validated and converted to path-root (a.k.a. "symbolic path") prefixes.
  • 5939: Installation Locations browse buttons should have start path set to current value
This was fixed, along with 5718.
  • 6004: Cannot build VI Package if source VIs are read-only
VI Package builder is now tolerant of read-only VIs int he VI Package Source folder and can build the VI Package without problems.
  • 6008: Attempting to save a read only vipb file causes internal error
Attempting to save a read-only VI Package source will result in a warning dialog.
  • 6063: Selecting "Delete Empty Column" in palettes less than four items wide causes problems
Deleting an empty column has no affect when the palette is less than four items wide.
  • 6103: VI Package Builder UI should bring VIPM frontmost after build is complete.
After a VI Package build completes, VIPM now brings itself frontmost
  • 6104: Editing LabVIEW TCP port can result in wrong settings changes when some LabVIEW versions are disabled
Editing the LabVIEW TCP port in the options dialog, now edits the correct LabVIEW version.
  • 6119: Need to add *.vit files as one of the items to scan for project dependencies in PCE
Project scanning by the VI Package Configuration Editor now includes VI Template (*.vit) files in scan.
  • 6124: Broken VIs in source folder prevent using External Dependencies
In general, the VI Package Configuration window's Scan Project feature is now tolerant of broken VIs, which allows scanning the dependencies of a VI Package source folder.
  • 6125: Installing package with missing dependencies doesn't show warning
Now, when attempting to install a package with missing dependencies (or add a package with missing dependencies to a VI Package Configuration) the action confirmation dialog shows the missing package with a description of the problem.
  • 6129: VIPM toolbar button and menu naming inconsistencies
Menu items and buttons for opening windows renamed to "Show VI Package Configuration Editor", "Show VI Package Builder", and "Show VI Package Manager".
  • 6131: Action Confirmation should unselect and disable packages not installable on OS or LabVIEW version
Now, when applying a VIPC file, the Action Confirmation dialog now deselects, grays out, and adds a problem description for packages that are not installable on the current OS.
  • 6134: VI Package descriptions get truncated after first line when built in VIPM
VI Package descriptions are no longer truncated and can be multi-line.
  • 6237: VI Server access settings error message should recommend "localhost" instead of "*"
VIPM now suggests using "localhost" instead of "*" for hosts allowed VI Server access to LabVIEW.
  • 6273: Palette icon transparency not shown in package builder
Palette icons with transparency now use the transparency info in the palette editor.
  • 6472: There is no way to easily deactivate VIPM
There is now a "Deactivate" button on the Registration dialog that allows VIPM to be deactivated (reverted to Community Edition).
